The Department of English has been functioning since the establishment of the college in 1999. English was taught only as a compulsory subject since the beginning of the college but in 2009 it was introduced as a Core Course at the UG level in the faculty of Arts. Keeping in mind the larger interest of the students the management and the principal has started P.G programme in English from this academic year 2022-2023. From the very beginning of the college there is only one permanent faculty with vast experience and knowledge in the subject. Dr. Shailendra H Pandey, Associate Professor is handling the department activities. He is recognized Ph. D supervisor in English in Shri Govind Guru University, Godhra. At present three research scholars are pursuing their Ph. D under his guidance. There is one adhoc faculty in the department. There was the need of adhoc faculty to handle the workload in the time –table of English Compulsory and English Core Course, so that the students may not suffer because of the single faculty and more work load in the subject. The purpose is to benefit the students with more lectures. Both the faculty members are trying hard to give students enough exposure in English language and literature and to make them proficient in English during all the three years of the U.G programme. The faculty members employ different teaching methods & techniques in the classroom in accordance with the papers they have been teaching. They have been encouraging and employing students with discussions and presentations in all the papers. This was for developing creativity in the students in interpretations and appreciation of classics and to enable students in linguistic competence.
Keeping in view the prescribed syllabi by the concerned University and the level of students, there have been marked changes in teaching methodologies and approaches for making it more students’ friendly. The classroom processes encourage student participation in the reading and interpretation of prescribed texts. Students are also encouraged to have discussions with their teachers even outside the classes for clarification of their doubts and to talk about literature and language beyond the syllabus.
